Full renovation of a 14-room, 21+ luxury boutique hotel originally built in 1959.
This property, which evokes a simple and understated style with unmistakable mid-century-modern touches, offers unobstructed views of the San Jacinto Mountains, a lounge pool with two shallow ends that are perfect for relaxing and imbibing, and enveloping desert landscaping—a sanctuary with a peaceful, almost residential feel.
The project was a collaboration under Lightning Bar Palm Springs with John Janulis. Our goal was to interpret the MCM style into a form that is livable today. We worked with our team of carpenters to create all of the wood details on the property: the floating beds with nightstands, accent walls, and the incredible wood and mirror details in the lobby; the floating credenza; the front desk and bar. The pool decking’s tile design creates movement, drawing the eye to the mountains upon entry. Two linear fire pits were added with planters on either end and seating all around, while the former pool was replaced with a "meadow" courtyard for events, yard games, and relaxation.
The new screen at the entrance was a collaboration with Cioffi Architect and was intended to create a sense of intrigue upon arrival. Inspired by the breeze block walls of Palm Springs, we wanted to create something that worked with the original architecture without adding another masonry element to the existing slumpstone from the 1950s.
